Scott Covert creates text-driven drawings and paintings based on grave-rubbings, often juxtaposing celebrity names from different eras into his work to celebrate the full spectrum of man’s achievements and failures; in doing so, he examines the simple frailty and inevitability of human mortality. Covert’s technique is recognizable but abstract, and he pushes his ideas further by creating a story behind the names captured in his pieces. Covert’s work has been exhibited at the Lee Arthur Studio in New York; Barbara Braathen Gallery in New York; Mark Moore Gallery in Santa Monica, CA; the Lakeside Gallery in Lakeside, MI; the Plan B Gallery in Forest Park, IL; and Glenn Horowitz Booksellers, in East Hampton, NY.
